Shift

Friday Nights 7:30 - 9:30
Years 7-10

Shift is one of two youth groups run at St Luke’s church. We aim to develop Christian faith and friendship in a safe and fun environment. We encourage the youth to be part of a peer group that will grow with them in faith and in life. Shift runs during school terms for youth between years 7-10. Each evening begins with a BBQ followed by games, Bible talks and discussion groups and ends with fellowship around supper.

We will need a permission note for your child.

KYLIE:

Kylie

Kylie grew up in Marsfield and worked in real estate before deciding to become a primary school teacher.   She loves it!  She has been involved with church ministry and youth activities for over 10 years and loves that too!  Kylie lives in Hornsby with her husband Chris and they have glass fish (because they’re not very good a keeping real fish).

Kylie likes hanging out with friends as well as watching ‘Friends’ on TV.  She drinks way too much tea and enjoys going on trips with Chris.

Kylie’s favourite verse is Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present or the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

CHRIS:

Chris

Chris has always lived in the Hornsby Shire. He spends the working week as a Chartered Accountant helping people’s businesses and doing tax returns. On the weekends he likes to play golf, watch all kinds of sports and relax with friends (preferably with a bbq).

Chris has been involved in youth ministry for many years and loves sharing God’s word, especially with teenagers.

Chris’ favourite verse Proverbs 19:21 – “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

HALEY

Haley

Haley grew up going to Sunday School (now known as Kids Church) every Sunday throughout primary school. She returned to church in 2006, as she had finished school and was looking for direction.

Haley is studying to be a teacher, and she is passionate about helping young people to learn about their world. She wants young people to have a Godly perspective of their world. As a Christian she wants to see people come to know, love, worship and serve God in a personal relationship with Him.

Haley's favourite verse. There are so many! One of my favourites would have to be Jeremiah 29:11 as it helped me to develop my relationship with Christ. The verse gives a reason for our hope and faith in God's purpose for our lives. "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future".

PHIL

Phil

Phil has been at St Lukes since he was young and is currently studying engineering at university and is involved in the evening service on Sunday nights in various positions.

Phil is a youth leader because he wants kids to understand the reality of this world, that all will fade to dust, and it is only through Jesus that we can avoid a similar fate. He also wants the youth to realise what a relationship with Jesus is really about, not just attending church or obeying rules but committing your life to him, living in him.

Phil's favourite verse would have to be Ephesians 2:8-10 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

MICHAEL (NOODLES)

Noodles

Michael, or otherwise known as Noodles has been going to St Lukes since he was young, and is heavily involved in the musical ministry team for Sunday night services.

Noodles is involved in youth ministry because he wants to see kids learn and grow in their faith in Jesus.

Noodles favourite verse is also Romans 8:37-39 - No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

SCOTT

Scott

Scott grew up in Hornsby and has gone to St Luke's most of his life. After finishing highschool in 2004, he worked with a boat building company before pursuing his current career as a carpenter.  He spends most of his spare time either with his girlfriend, working on his car (not his girlfriend) and making furniture.

Scott has been involved with kid's ministry at St Luke's for a few years now. He gets encouraged through seeing other people's growth and muturity in Christ.

Scott's favourite bible verse is Philippians 2:5-11 -
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
